St Davids Rugby Club

Project Story

Our clients brief was to design a complete renovation of the existing space to include new floors, gents and ladies toilets, bar redecoration and create multiple use spaces for rugby socials, discos, events and provide the possibility for lenders to run as a restaurant or bar.

  • Year of Design

Situated in the historic West Wales City of St Davids, the rugby club has been very popular in recent times.  It was run down and in need of desperate modernisation.  With one large open plan room, this offered a rare possibility to break up different areas within the space and make the most of the sensational long bar as the focal point.  The existing windows facing out towards the main rugby pitch had fixed seating beneath, obstructing the lovely view outside.  The area in front of the bar was blank and empty, and needed some purpose to help link the spectacular large space together

Carreg concepts worked with the committee members of the rugby club to bring a scheme that accommodated all their needs and more importantly their ability to attract potential lenders.

The new proposed space includes a cloak room, entrance desk, great range of seating at different levels and even houses their very own terraced seating for those international rugby weekends.  After the site visit, it was made clear along with the long bar, the view out towards the main pitch needed to be one of the focal points.  A new bi-fold door system opens a range of possibility during summer months in terms of rugby festivals, weddings and events.

Through designing a new stylish and Industrialised space, we were able to accommodate the clubs needs but also the needs of potential lenders, creating possibly one of the best rugby club interiors in Wales.
